Paria Moazemi Goodarzi (she)

Paria Goodarzi, born and grew up in Tehran, lives and work in Glasgow and a member of UNESCO RILA Affiliated Artist network. Studied BA (Hons)Textile Design from University of Science & Culture in Tehran (2004), HND Textile from Cardonald college in Glasgow (2016), she studies Sculpture & Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art (2021).
Her Work revolves around cultural and political transfers and translocations, the ideas of the contemporary human condition, cultural identity and political issues that resulted in an ambivalent coexistence of civilised life, conflict and displacement.
Paria Goodarzi’s work responds to such contemporary, cultural and political aporias by examining the hybrid condition of our society and the processes of formation, performance and representation of identity through a multidisciplinary praxis that often takes the shape of collaborative, participatory and socially-engaged artworks.
She co-founded an art initiative under the name ‘Distanced Assemblage’, focused on community and socially engaged art practice; developing a series of collaborative projects that examine ideas of cultural appropriation and belonging by altering the meaning, function and contexts of cultural artefacts, symbols or actions to make a positive impact in the long-term wellbeing and visibility of minority groups within our ever-changing society.

The Redistribution Of Memory
Paria Goodarzi work revolves around cultural and political transfers and translocations, the ideas of the contemporary human condition, cultural identity and political issues that resulted in an ambivalent coexistence of civilised life, conflict and displacement.
She examine the hybrid condition of our society and the processes of formation, performance and representation of identity through a multidisciplinary practice that often takes the shape of participatory and socially-engaged artworks.
As part of my initiative practice I focus on ideas of cultural appropriation and belonging by altering the meaning, function and contexts of cultural identity to sheds light on democracy, equality and inclusion on the migratory process.
The Redistribution of Memory sheds light on the daily struggle of the immigration process in the democratic society today. This work is a response to my personal experience of the British citizenship process, as well as my political relationship to the state over the last five years. I attempted to represent the reflection of human progress in society and negotiate the national identity, power and value of time through the durational performance.
This body of work has been a result of my investigation into the process of social and cultural changes as a consequence of political issues.
To emphasis the process of formation, transition and the reality of migration, I have commented on the dehumanisation of modern society and explore the range of geopolitical and national developments in our global world.
Collaboration
Due to many similarities in their migratory stories and coinciding artistic concerns, Francisco Llinas-Casas and Paria Goodarzi have developed multiple collaborative projects under the joint name ‘Distanced Assemblage’; responding to ideas around belonging and representation, decolonisation of cultural spaces and the ambivalent coexistence of civilised life, conflict and displacement.
As part of their collaboration and embedded art practice, Paria and Francisco are currently artists in residence at Fondazione Pistoletto and endorsed artists by UNESCO RILA artist network.
