I am an image-based painter based between Essex and Cardiff. I gravitate towards large scale realism in my investigation into the relationship between painting and theatre. Fascinated by surface and tactility, I aim to emulate surfaces to a photographic like quality using often questionable subject matter.
My deep passion for set design, scenic painting and period costume drive my work, and I combine these more traditional themes with unexpected and modern subject matter. I would describe the work as excessive, lavish and humorous. It can be sickly sweet and off-putting, with themes of greed and visual opulence permeating through.
I want to meet the abject when considering concept, and bring together the beautiful and the ugly in the most theatrical way possible. This series of works is a selection of pieces made this academic year, done a mixture of mediums. Please see my website to see my full selection of work for sale.
