Olga Pypno (she/her)
My current practice revolves around the ideas of the uncanny, the sublime and nostalgia. Working primarily in painting and film photography I look to identify landscapes which evoke a sense of strange familiarity to me and my memories. Pictures are taken on old hand me down cameras and paintings feature familiar forests and roads. I look to identify the sublime within the world around me and analyse how the modern landscape affects the traditional perception of the sublime.
I am particularly interested in how landscapes which surround us can archive our memories and retell them as stories. Yet, these landscapes can also be frightening. The ideas of elements from the past coming back as ghosts is something which has been an interest to me for a while.
In my work I look to create a sense of intimacy and reflection within the spectators own personal history and memory.
Some of my work will be shown physically at Part Two of the Alternative Degree Show Festival across Glasgow in July 2021
