Bloomsberg New Contemporaries 2021: Selected Artist

Painter, gatherer, trespasser.

Straddling shifting borders. Shaped by the Edgelands of Europe. Currently based and working in London.

Bringing the figures relegated to the margins and roadsides of collective memory to centre stage. Wildefrau for a new Millennium. Plastic debris in the woods. Lingering in liminality. Exploring the life of a water sprite by using water based media instead of actually being water based.

Featured in the John Moores Painting Prize 2020, the RSA Annual Exhibition 2021. Longlisted for the Jackson’s Painting Prize 2021. More shows coming soon.

Precarious- The Lady Boss Series, 2021

Five acrylic paintings on canvas. 170 x 100 cm. Inspired by the study to Victor Popkov’s socialist realist masterpiece ‘Builders of Bratsk’ but reimagined to fit the gig economy. The collective portrait of five workers is deconstructed as five separate portraits. Each ‘Lady Boss’ is larger than life, colourful and confident but isolated from the other Ladies, forced into a narrow frame and stripped of impact on the larger picture.

The Lady Boss Series

A group of individualists forced together, fighting for the spotlight. No team players here.

The Lookout. 2021.

Acrylic on Canvas, 170 x 100 cm The first one to jump out of line. Inspired by the 'customisable uniform' I had to wear as a waitress after leaving The Old Country.

The Slacker, 2021

Acrylic on Canvas, 170 x 100 cm Featuring the iconic white boot-plastic chair duo is an ode to the roadside characters of early 90's Poland. The lesson to always appear busy at work has taken a seat with this one.

It is ironic that renouncing the Stakhanovism turned out to be an embrace of the American obsession with productivity. Hyper-individualist Girl Bosses, supposedly empowered by their constant 'hustle' placed instead of heroes of Socialist Labour. A cult of enterprise instead of the dictatorship of the working class.

Boruta, 2021

A result of reading numerous accounts of women causing moral outrage on Polish woodland roadsides- this is a sabbath to celebrate one of the elusive forest spirits of my childhood.
