Emily Choo Qianyi (she/her)

I’ve drawn ever since I was a little child and I remember sitting on my room floor and painting at 3 am when I was 12, thinking: wow, I think this is the one thing I could do forever in my life—so I did! I am a freelance illustrator and small creator now. I love experimenting with new mediums and forcing myself out of my comfort zone (even when I’m suffering internally). I’m always keen on collaborations and opportunities so hit me up! I’ve always loved all things horror, gore, goth, witchy and forever fascinated by yokai and I create my original characters that are inspired by all the oddities in my head.

@theperfectmom

All parents are fearful of their children getting addicted to social media. But, they often don’t realise that they are the first step to their child’s digital footprint and in turn, their social media addiction. “You can lie to yourself all you want but it is not you who are going through the repercussions.” @theperfectmom will be placed on Instagram, social media itself, to present the often invisible repercussions of sharenting that are imposed onto the children physically.

Catharsis

We always talk about our dark aspects, shadow and inner demons in the third person point of view. But they are a part of us. Why not shine light on these dark aspects, analyse our shadow and befriend our inner demons with the one that knows us best—Ourselves.

Catharsis takes a peek into the life of the shadow and what our inner demons truly sought—our care and attention. This behind-the-scenes peek will be a cathartic journey of narrative illustration and kickstarts their shadow work journey, in hopes of self-transcendence and liberation.

Coffee?

The toxic productivity roast.

How do you see coffee? Is it your best friend when you’re burning the midnight oil and rushing for deadlines? Or is it the magic that keeps you and your friends close as you catch up on each other’s lives? This illustrated zine explores toxic productivity through coffee.

Directions: Enjoy the illustrated zine. Take the instant coffee sachet from the pocket at the end of the zine. Add the sachet into a cup of boiling water. Let it steep for 2 minutes to produce a robust brew and enjoy your cup of coffee, your way.

Into the clouds

D&AD New Blood: Audible for ‘The Faraway’. The brief required us to create a visual identity for a fictional audiobook.

We often look up when we daydream. As we daze into the clouds, we are reminded of our childhood. How can we get in touch with our child-like imagination again?

Into the clouds is a metaphorical approach in presenting The Faraway. The surrealistic visual identity kickstarts their fantasy adventure before they even tune in to the audiobook, through animated narrative illustrations.

Les fleurs du mal

This monoprint aims to evoke the negative human desires we suppress through spontaneous strokes and blood-like splatters. It is my take on Les Fleurs Du Mal The Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire’s poetry.

SOUL magazine

SOUL is a voice for the unsaid that deconstructs discriminated obsessions with a curious heart by prying into the souls of others. our magazine explores the psychological aspects and rationalises these obsessions into relatability.

SOUL expresses these often derogatory themes in a positive light, through short stories, poems, photographs and monoprints. In this first issue, we pry into the souls of toys and question the obsession with these objects, even after growing up into adults. Do you still have that toy with you at home? Do you still hug it to sleep at night? Are you too old to play with it? Can adults play with kids toys? Whichever object popped up in your head, that is the object whose soul you will pry open today.
