DESIGN STATEMENT
The performance hall and residential retreat sitting in Balloch on the banks of River Leven with the northeast location surrounded by trees. The schemes aim is to have minimal energy consumption and reduce the carbon footprint, with ideal orientation, passive systems and active systems. The scheme is designed to be flexible, adaptable and inclusive. The buildings have a great link to the landscape. The residents are encouraged to spend their time outside with a walk-on green roof, private beach, public courtyard with a pathway ramp leading you on a journey through the trees. the residents are encouraged to engage with the public in the public, private and semi-public realms. The buildings are wheelchair accessible, the rooms are all flexible, the client can adapt them to their needs and requirements. The scheme has incorporated several systems like recycling of greywater, solar collector plates, high-efficiency appliances. The orientation of the scheme has been explored to fit the landscape and the sun paths. The footprint of the residential retreat is minimised to reduce energy loss. The materials used in the design are reusable, recyclable and locally sourced. Thick stone walls and natural lighting promote thermal and living comfort.
