Govan Spiral Garden

Using permaculture principles and drystone walling methods, I created a spiral herb garden at Govan Graving Docks. This method of gardening has been used for centuries and organises herbs by height and orientation to the sun, based on the plant’s tolerance to drought.

I used found bricks salvaged from nearby scrapheaps and used fresh peat-free compost, richer in nutrients than the parched and partially contaminated soil available on site. This is an ongoing gardening project which I hope to garden over the year, with some seasonal changes to plant types and species growing in the spiral garden.
