Sofea Aini

A motivated and aspiring designer who continuously seeks to learn and discover new things along the way. Designing beyond limitations, innovating, and expanding horizons. Designing to me is an outlet where I’m able to better understand the user’s perspective and perception of a space. Looking at space from more than just a perspective and incorporating the user’s experience. Every great design tells a story we yearn to question, discover and unfold. “To create, one must first question everything.” – Eileen Gray.

Aging In Place – Connect to reconnect

Aging In Place – Connect to reconnect

The project investigates the way elderlies live. Part one looks at people’s way of life through spaces and cultivating a community of residents looking after one another. Part two, it aims to foster a strong community bonding among residents who share a common interest. Part three explores the design of elderly ‘living rooms’ within the public realm.

Aging has been viewed negatively from society’s perspective. Media representations of seniors tend to be scarce, inaccurate, or framed in disempowering stereotypes.

This has created an acceptance for seniors that spaces designed for them are limited and largely only catering more to their healthcare needs. However, there have not been many attempts to push the frontiers of architecture and carve out new types of spaces that seniors can embrace as a place to call their own.
